Swinging a big stick at traffic
Heiligenstein takes no prisoners when it comes to promoting toll roads as a salve for Austin-area’s traffic woes

Being the face of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the region’s chief proponent of toll roads, is not one of the area’s most coveted political positions. But the likeable and uber-professional Mike Heiligenstein, the CTRMA’s executive director, handles the job with aplomb and enthusiasm. He believes toll roads – throughways on which you will pay to avoid spending undue time in traffic – can help solve the area’s burgeoning transportation crisis, and he is more than ready to tell you how and why.
