Thumbing its nose at high prescription prices
MedSavers is the people’s advocate and is making a mark in the face of triple-digit drug markups
There is a way to avoid the high price of prescription drugs, and Austin druggist Chris Johnson – through the success MedSavers, of his almost two-year-old all-generic pharmacy – is making sure he is getting out the word in a near-evangelistic manner. For all his efforts, Johnson and MedSavers has become a people’s advocate while thumbing his nose as the high cost of prescriptions.

Austin
health care market gathered in the 19th-floor conference room in the downtown offices of Thompson & Knight in November 2006.

What’s Austin’s prescription for your health?
Area health care providers fighting a losing battle with increase of patients and growth in need for services and professionals

Say you are standing in line Starbucks, waiting with four others in queue for a latte. Would it be a surprise to you that one out of the five of those in line does not have health insurance coverage, and because of that fact more than $1,500 a year is coming out of your pocket to pay for that person’s trips to the emergency room or to the local trauma center?

Come Together, Right Now! (Over Us)
Austin is an attractor for smart, creative people. Our vibrant activity in music, film, technology, food, art, education and gaming (to name a few) is a testament to this fact. This is an incredible asset. While we attract these folks, we do an uneven job of connecting them with each other. Our first task is to nurture personal connections within these industries and create open source communities.
